Finding The Right Career For Your Children

Look at your young children now. They are just carefree beings who are extremely dependent on you as their parents. While they can make their own decisions, you as parents are the enablers of their choices. If you provide them the right environment to grow in, they will be able to choose what they really want to do, and they will be able to do what they really want to do. We, as parents, are responsible for building the capabilities of our children so that they are able to live meaningful lives of their own. An essential part of building capabilities is to provide our children the right care in terms of education and health. Educational achievements are directly related to the incomes of individuals, and so is health. The contribution of formal education and good health in leading better or sustained standards of living is irrefutable. Apart from formal education, there are other educational factors that contribute to the discovery of the most suitable career for your child.

Formal education is important, but good grades are not enough to get your child to know himself or herself the best. There are many other factors that shape your child's character. These factors lie in activities outside education, like art, sports, music, theatre, etc. These activities help your child identify his or her true passion, which goes on to become a major determinant in the choice of one's career. Remember, how did you choose your career? Did you do something because everyone was doing it, or did you do something because you loved it and managed to excel in it? The answer is usually the latter. Your child needs to find what he or she loves the most. Then only can he or she decide what he or she will excel in. Once your child knows what he or she loves to do, provide your child with the best training possible. Those who love singing take singing classes from a young age, dancers take dance classes from a young age, gymnasts are known to start their training from a tender age of five or six. Starting from an early age is always the right start.
Now, if you have started your child's training, do not let him or her neglect school and formal education. Remember, these trainings are for their passions. But passions change without one anticipating it. So, your child must be prepared for any voluntary or forced change in passion and taste. So, your child must be trained to face other kinds of obstacles too. If one has always been trained to be a footballer, but because of injuries is forced to quit, then he or she must be able to find an alternative career. And that will be possible if the child has received other forms of training, like formal education. When your child is old enough and is looking for the career path to follow, guide him or her in settling their priorities. Priorities are a major determinant of career path. He or she needs to be clear about the ultimate goal as well as the journey to the ultimate goal.
To summarize, I would say that your child needs to explore his or her options and find what is economically viable and emotionally and mentally stable. Give your child the independence to explore, and he or she will foray into the right career. Give him or her all your support and guidance.
